nappies, trees and the environment

make the

world a little

greener

Every little baby is precious and unique, however, there are two things they all have in common; wees and poos - lots of them!

Every nappy used has an environmental impact

nappies

No matter what choice of nappy you make; disposable, reusable or bio-degradable; they all have a lasting environmental impact.

Whether you are a new parent or an old-hand, nappies are almost unavoidable. Did you know that a baby can use over 5,000 nappies in the first 2 1/2 years of their life – that’s a lot of wees and poos!

95% of all nappy use in Australia is disposable, making up approximately 5% of landfill content. That’s approximately 800 million disposable nappies dumped in landfill, just in Australia every year.

Resuable nappies also impact our environment, from the pesticides used in cottom growth to the detergent and water used whilst cleaning, and energy during drying.

All nappies have a lasting environmental impacted, no matter what choice of style you make. The raw materials used for production, the emissions generated from manufacture; transportation; detergent, water and energy used when cleaning and drying; and of course landfill all contribute to your little one’s nappy carbon footprint.

You can take positive steps to minimise your little ones environmental nappy impact by planting sustainable forests with Ones, Twos and Trees and carbon offsetting you nappy use.

Taking small green steps towards minimising the environmental impact of your nappy usage.

Surprisingly, with so many consumer and environmental studies on the impact of disposable and reusable nappies, no nappy system comes out on top. Neither style can claim to be completely green!

But you can take the small green steps to minimise the environmental impact of the first 2½ years of a childs nappy use.

Because everyones nappy use is different we use the average carbon footprint. We’ve done all the homework, calculated a child’s average nappy use, researched the environmental nappy lifecycle and calculated the average nappy carbon footprint.

A child can use 6,570 number of nappies in their first 2½ years, which is equivilant to 650 kg of CO2, or driving a car upto 3550 kilometres!

Establishing bio-diverse forests to help our environment

Planting a

Greener Future

Planting trees helps soak up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produce oxygen for us to breathe.

Establishing self-sustaining forests actively helps tackles climate change by naturally capturing carbo emissions produced through nappy use.

Our bio-diverse forests are made up of a wide variety of Australian native trees that also help to reduce soil erosion and salinity, improve water quality and provide habitat for native animals.

Working with accredited carbon sequestration projects Australia wide, the forests that contribute to long lasting environment benefit. All our tree plantings are continually monitored to ensure ongoing health and carbon capture performance, helping make the world a little greener.
